'An Exact Representation of the Taking of the Island of Trinidad (as they appear'd on the 17th February 1797) By Rear Adm Heny Harvey & Genl Ralph Abercromby, KB', 1800

Tinted line engraving published by G Thompson, 1800.

A British invasion force under the command of General Sir Ralph Abercromby attacks the Caribbean island of Trinidad in February 1797, during the Wars of the French Revolution (1793-1797). Trinidad was held by Spain, allied with revolutionary France from 1796. The print shows Royal Navy ships including HMS Prince of Wales, HMS Bellona, HMS Zebra and HMS Invincible moving in on the Spanish fleet defending Trinidad. The Spanish fired some of their own ships and the island quickly surrendered to the British.
