'Beloochees [sic] in the Bolan Pass', 1839

Frontispiece from 'Sketches in Afghanistan', 1838-1842, by Louis and Charles Haghe after James Atkinson, published by Henry Graves and Company and J W Allen and Company, 1 July 1842.

The Army of the Indus entered Afghanistan through the Bolan Pass, a passage 60 miles long and 5,880 feet tall at its highest point. It took the army two weeks to pass through it. During this period they were constantly fired upon by Baluchi tribesmen who hid in the caves overhanging the pass.
