'Interview between Col Hare, Lieut. Governor, and the Caffre Chiefs, at Block Drift', 30 January 1846

Sandile, chief of the increasingly aggressive Rharhabe clan of the Xhosa, met with Colonel Sir John Hare (1782 (c)-1846), Lieutenant Governor of the Eastern Division in June 1846 at Block Drift near Fort Beaufort. They discussed the proposed construction of a fort at Block Drift. Regiments present are noted as, Royal Artillery, 7th Dragoon Guards, the 91st Highlanders and the Cape Mounted Rifles.
