Coloured tinted lithograph by T Picken, 1855. One of 40 lithographs from 'The Seat of War in the East - First Series' after William Simpson, published by Paul and Dominic Colnaghi and Company, 24 May 1855.
This view of a Crimean War (1854-1856) artillery battery depicts Captain Mansfield, Major Shadwell, Lieutenant-Colonel Stirling, Major Gordon, and Sir Colin Campbell standing near the cannons, with the camp of the Highland Brigade in the background. The harbour at Balaklava and the remains of the old Genoese castle are visible in the distance on the right.
