'The Duke of Wellington entering the city of Thoulouse [sic], Oct 1814'

Coloured aquatint by J C Stadler after William Heath, published by Thomas Tegg, 1 April 1818. Illustration for a narrative poem by Dr Syntax, 1818.

With the French driven from Iberian Peninsula Allied forces moved into Southern France. The French Marshal Jean-de-Dieu Soult made a hard-fought stand at Toulouse but withdrew from the city. The population, saved from the horrors of a siege, welcomed Wellington when he entered the city (actually on 12 April 1814).
