Goblet belonging to Captain (later Major-General) Reginald William Sartorius VC
Sartorius was awarded the Victoria Cross (VC) for gallantry at Abogoo on 17 January 1874, during the 2nd Ashanti War (1873-1874), when he rescued a wounded comrade under heavy fire. He was twice mentioned in Despatches during the same campaign. The goblet is said to have been presented by the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) on Sartorius' return from Africa. It is inscribed: 'Captain Sartorius on Return From Comassie 3rd April 1874'.
