Kukri presented to General Sir John Francis Stanhope Duke Coleridge GCB CMG DSO, by all ranks of the 8th Gurkha Rifles, 1945
Highly decorated kukris have been presented by the Gurkhas to many notables over the years and especially to commanders whom they have held in high esteem. Coleridge (1878-1951) had served with the 8th Gurkhas in India, Tibet and during World War One. In 1940 he was appointed General Officer Commanding Northern Command in India.
