Lieutenant Charles Cecil Rowe Murphy, Indian Army Staff, 1915

Born on 2 March 1872, Murphy was privately educated and went into the Militia before joining the Suffolk Regiment as a second lieutenant in December 1893. He took a commission in the Indian Army in 1909, serving with the 30th Punjabis, 19th Punjabis and 14th Punjab Regiment. He was promoted Lieutenant-Colonel in 1919 and retired on his 52nd birthday, 2 March 1924.
