Tenor Drum, 1st Battalion Connaught Rangers, 1905 (c)
Tenor drums provided an intermediate sound between the side (or snare) drums and the base drum.
This drum bears the battle honours awarded to the Connaught Rangers up until the end of the Boer War (1899-1902). They added further battle honours during the First World War, prior to disbandment on the creation of the Irish Free State in 1922.
The drum was used by drummer J Hoolihan who was a shoe maker from Waterford and enlisted in the Regiment in 1919.
