Photograph, 1st Sudan War (1884-1885), 1884 (c).
The regiment was raised in 1846 and served during the 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880) before being sent in 1884 to the Red Sea port of Suakin in Sudan as part of Major-General Gerald Graham's 4,000 strong Anglo-Indian force.
