'"Hawker Hart" Crossing Lowari. March '32'
Air to air photograph of Hawker Hart aircraft, probably of 39 Squadron, Royal Air Force, flying over the Lowari Pass between Chitral and Peshawar, North West Frontier, India, 1932.
The Hawker Hart was a light bomber developed for the Royal Air Force in the 1920s. The two-seat biplane was obsolete by the time World War Two (1939-1945) broke out but the Hart and tropical variants, like the Audax, saw extensive service on the North West Frontier of India in 1930s.
From an album of photographs compiled by Lieutenant Colonel Cyril Nisbet Steel, 25th Punjabis, 1904-1921. Steel left the Indian Army in 1933 and joined the Royal Air Force.
