'Victoria Battery, Gibraltar', 1866 (c)

Victoria Battery covering the western approaches to Gibraltar, with guns mounted on traversing carriages with pyramids of solid shot alongside each piece. Named after Queen Victoria the Victoria Battery was constructed in the 1840s to bolster the territory's defences.
From an album of 62 photographs compiled by Lieutenant (later Lieutenant-Colonel) Henry Rowland Spencer Chatfield, 86th (Royal County Down) Regiment of Foot.
