'Ney in the Waterloo Campaign'

Written by an unknown author, this eight chapter treatise argues that John Codman Ropes, author of 'The Campaign of Waterloo', and Henri Houssaye, author of 'Waterloo', unfairly criticised the actions of Marshal Ney between 15-18 June 1815, and seeks to explain Ney's actions in the context of the campaign.

This section contains three chapters. Chapter 1 a. Introduction, b. D'Erlon's orders on 15 June, c. The midnight supper, and the morning order, d. Ney at the front on the morning of 16 June, e. The two Frasnes. Chapter 2 a. Houssaye's nine dispatches, b. The misdirection of D'Erlon's Corps, c. Ney's recall of D'Erlon, d. Houssaye's theory of the D'Erlon episode. Chapter 3 a. Houssaye's aspersions of Ney, b. Rope's criticisms , c. The end of the day.

From a collection of maps and documents relating to Waterloo compiled by Colonel Arthur Kenney-Herbert.
