Lord Kitchener with officers in the desert during the 2nd Sudan War, 1898

Lord Kitchener (1850-1916), 'The Sirdar', with his his aide-de-camp Captain (later Lieutenant Colonel) James Kiero Watson (1865-1941), King's Royal Rifle Corps. Also in the photograph are Major General (later Lieutenant General) Sir William Forbes Gatacre (1843-1906), commanding the British Division in the Sudan, with his aide-de-camp Lieutenant (later Lieutenant Colonel) Ronald George Brooke (1866-1930) of the 7th Hussars.
