Cap badge, other ranks, worn by Corporal H F Wood, The Norfolk Regiment, 1919 (c)

Bi-metal badge with the figure of Britannia seated holding an olive branch in her right hand, a trident in her left hand, with an oval shield bearing the Union flag; within a wreath, with a scroll below bearing the unit title, 'The Norfolk Regt.'.

According to regimental tradition, Queen Anne granted the regiment the use of the figure of Britannia on the regimental insignia following its service at Almanza (1707) during the War of the Spanish Succession (1702-1714). This was only officially recognised in 1799.
