'61st S Glos Regt 1856, Officer.'
Watercolour from 'Dress and Equipment of the Gloucestershire Regiment. 28th North Glos. 61st South Glos. 1694-1915', a volume of 37 single figure studies in watercolour, unsigned, possibly by F Stansell, 1915 (c).
This officer wars the new 1855 pattern shako that replaced the unpopular pattern 1844-55 or 'Albert' shako. He also wears the new shorted double-breasted tunic that replaced the old coatee. This type of tunic was only in circulation for a year or so before being replaced by a single-breasted version.
