'The Lascar and the Naick', 1835 (c)
Watercolour on European paper, by a Company artist, 1835 (c).
East India Company artilleryman and non-commissioned officer.
Simple Company paintings like this could be bought cheaply in bazaars. Unusually, this example appears to have mechanically-printed black outlines that have then been hand-painted in colour. This technique would have aided the multiple production of pictures.
