King Thibaw takes a walk with his courtiers, Burma, 1885
Watercolour on Oriental paper, by a Burmese artist, 1885.
The exotic entourage of King Thibaw and Queen Supayalat includes courtiers, soldiers and elephants. The Burmese artist has stylised the figures so that there are only subtle differences between most of them, and the King and Queen at the centre of the painting are hard to distinguish from the rest of the court.
