Silver snuff box owned by Surgeon Ambrose Hamilton Kelly, 1879 (c)

Dr Ambrose Kelly (1845-1879), the Queen's Own Corps of Guides' surgeon and the Kabul Residency's medical officer, was killed during the Afghan attack on Major Cavagnari and his staff. His personal effects were recovered from the ruins by Major-General Frederick Roberts' troops following their re-occupation of Kabul in October 1879.
