Hanger sword, 1640 (c)
This short infantry soldier's sword has a slightly curved, single-edged blade with broad shallow fullers (grooves which strengthen the blade). The steel pommel is covered with an ivory or bone grip. This was not a weapon for slicing, but for crushing flesh and bone.
