3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), Chilford Hall, Linton, Cambridgeshire, 1940
Photograph compiled by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), 1940.
By mid-August 1940, the Sharpshooters were in Cambridgeshire undertaking training, primarily equipped with light Vickers tanks. The war diary of the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) mentions 'A' Squadron billeting 'on farm at Chilford Hall' during the high summer of 1940. Sale's collection includes a series of photographs showing farm animals, tractor rides and some likely candidates for the farmer and his family.
In this photograph soldiers pose for a group photograph on a farm tractor and trailer. A similar photograph is captioned, 'Our transport to the village pub'.
From an album of 328 photographs compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), 1938-1940.
