'Geof Willis & Jimmy Sale', 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), Chiddingfold, Surrey, 1940

Vickers Mark VI light tank with crew identified as Geoffrey Willis (1908-1943) and Wilfred Herbert James 'Jimmy' Sale, during a training exercise with Home Guard units.

According to the unit war diary, the regiment was billeted and undergoing training in Chiddingfold in October and November 1940.

Lieutenant-Colonel George Geoffrey Lightly Willis (1908-1943) went on to win the Distinguished Service Order and he led the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) in North Africa and Sicily. He was killed on 17 July 1943, leading from the front, in the heavy fighting around the Primosole Bridge in Sicily. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission commemorates his death at the Catania War Cemetery, Sicily.
