A Lanchester Armoured Car involved in an accident on the banks of the River Exe, 1939 (c)
Photograph by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, MC, 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), 1939 (c).
In his introduction to Andrew Graham's book, 'Sharpshooters at War' (University Press, Glasgow, 1964), Oliver Woods, an officer of the unit, recounts how 'one car fell over a sixty-foot embankment and its turret rolled off' during the training with the Lancers. The car was apparently being driven by a member of the 12th Lancers who fell asleep after 18 hours at the wheel.
From an album of 328 photographs compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters).
