'The ranges', 3rd County of London Yeomanry, Egypt, 1943

Members of 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) pose with a Sherman tank on a range in Egypt. The tank crewmen include Doug Endacott and Jimmy Sale (standing second from left). Others are identified as 'Peter', 'Jock Jenkins' and 'Taffy Morgan'.

In early 1943 the Sharpshooters were out of the line re-fitting and training. The unit was re-equipped and reinforced after suffering heavy losses in the previous year's battles in North Africa. The regiment was based at Cowley Camp at Mena, near Cairo, where it undertook training until July 1943 prior to Operation HUSKY, the amphibious operation to invade the island of Sicily.
