Photograph by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), World War Two, Sicily, 1943.
The war diary of the Sharpshooters records heavy fighting around the Primosole Bridge over the Simeto RIver in July 1943. A Scammell recovery vehicle is on the road and the wrecks of gliders can be seen in the background.
From a photograph album containing 241 photographs compiled by Major Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), 1943-1944.
