According to its war diary, 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) was part of a force that advanced on San Vito Chietino in Abruzzo at the beginning of December 1943. The town was lightly defended by German forces and was captured on 3 December 1943. The war diary entry for that day mentions the Germans shelling and mortaring the town after it was captured. The unit moved to positions on the River Moro on the 6 December 1943. The entry for the following day records further shelling of the Sharpshooters' defensive positions and the death of Trooper Bill Henry John Sullivan and Trooper Frank James Kingsbury, and the wounding of Corporal Geoff Fiske and Troopers H A Reed and H G Tinson.
