'Capt Hugh Crane (The Padre)', Royal Army Chaplains' Department, England, 1944

A British Army padre attached to the County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), in uniform, wearing 'dog collar'. Captain, the Reverend Hubert (Hugh) Crane was affectionally nicknamed, 'Lifting Tackle'. He served as Regimental Chaplain with the Sharpshooters in North Africa, Italy and North West Europe.

This photograph was taken in England prior to Operation OVERLORD, the invasion of mainland Europe in June 1944.
