Lord Cranley, caricature, 1943

William Arthur Bampfylde Onslow, 6th Earl of Onslow and Viscount Cranley (1913-1971). Cranley was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the Life Guards in 1934. Cranley served with the 4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) during World War Two (1939-1945). He served in North Africa, taking part of Operation CRUSADER, where he was awarded the Military Cross. Cranley commanded the 4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) in Normandy in June 1944. He was captured following the Battle of Villers-Bocage.
