A Churchill tank of 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry, 1944
Photograph by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), World War Two, North West Europe, 1944.
The model shown here is probably a Mark VII Churchill which was armed with a 75mm gun. The tank weighed 39 tons, had a top speed of 17 miles (27 kilometres) per hour, and had a range of 90 miles. Some Churchills were adapted to mount flame throwers. The Churchill chassis could also be fitted with equipment for mine sweeping, bridge laying and other specialised tasks.
From an album of 211 photographs compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters).
