Sergeants Mess, 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), Cherfold, Surrey, 1941

The men in the group photograph are listed as Charles Harris, 'Boy Jewell', Peter Powell, John Grimwade, 'Jacko', Frank Day, Freddie Crowley, Ron Fiske, Mervyn Madders, Adrian Charlton and Alf Thomson.

In October 1940, the 3rd and 4th Sharpshooters Regiments moved to the Dorking area, with the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) billeted in Cherfold, Chiddingfold and surrounding villages. The Sharpshooters were temporarily deployed to various training areas during this period. After gunnery training in South Wales in February 1941 the unit returned to southern England to train on the South Downs between Worthing and Arundel. In May 1941 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) moved to Westbury in Wiltshire, prior to deployment to North Africa.
