Antwerp was captured relatively undamaged in early September 1944 and gave the Allies the large port that they needed to solve their supply problems. 'A' Squadron of 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) reached the city on 7 September alongside elements of 53rd Division.
