Padre Browne, wearing a leather jerkin, stands next to a Ford Fordor C11ADF utility vehicle fitted with a chaplain's flag. The vehicle has been adapted for use in the desert with an improvised sun shade over its windscreen, a water condenser fitted to the radiator to allow any boiling water to be trapped and reserved and additional ventilation slots cut into the bonnet.
Padre Browne of the Royal Army Chaplains' Department was attached to 3rd County of London Yeomanry of 7th Armoured Division in order to provide for the spiritual and moral well-being of the soldiers.
