'Tommy gun practice: Tony Troiano, Arthur Cook Brian Darch', North Africa, 1942
Photograph by Major Wilfred Herbert James Sale, MC, 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), World War Two, North Africa (1940-1943), 1942.
Three members of 'A' Squadron 3rd County of London Yeomanry stand on their Crusader Mk II tank (named Ailsa II) to engage in firing practice with the Thompson sub-machine gun. This weapon's reliability, stopping power, accuracy and resistance to hard conditions made it very popular amongst Allied troops in the desert.
From an album containing 189 photographs compiled by Major W H J Sale, MC, 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters).
