Map of Malaya used by Sir Gerald Templer whilst High Commissioner and Director of Operations, February 1952 to May 1954

Templer coined the term 'hearts and minds'. His shrewd political and strategic awareness during the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960) gave the West one of its few counter-insurgency victories. The colour-headed pins indicate the number of times he visited each place marked during the period. The map was published by the Survey Department of the Federation of Malaya in 1950.
