Formation badge of 56th (London) Infantry Division, 1940 (c)
This unit's emblem was Mayor of London Dick Whittington's cat. Formed as a Territorial Army Motor Division in September 1939, it was later reorganised as an infantry division in June 1940. On 18 November of that year the formation was redesignated as 56th (London) Division under the command of Major-General Eric Miles.
