Sweetheart brooch, 40th Pathans, 1922 (c)
Small, jewelled representations of regimental and unit badges of this type were given by serving officers to their wives and girlfriends. The 40th Pathans were raised in 1858, and by 1922 consisted of four companies of Pathans, two of Punjabi Musalamans and two of Dogras. That year the 40th became the 5th Battalion of the 14th Punjab Regiment.
