Members of 2nd Battalion, 5th Mahratta Light Infantry, at the sport of Malkam, 1937

Malkam was a sport in which various revolutions were performed on a pole set in the ground. It was one of several traditional village pastimes that was kept up in the Maratha battalions while on active service.
