Model 17 Eierhandgranate, 1916 (c)
This German 'egg hand grenade' was used during World War One (1914-1918). Its relatively small size and low weight meant that it could be thrown around 40 metres (44 yards). The raised band around its centre was added as early smooth versions proved hard to hold with wet or muddy hands.
