Grenade discharger for SMLE rifle No 1 Mk I 1917 (c)
Although first introduced in World War One (1914-1918), the EY Rifle, a Short Magazine Lee Enfield Rifle No 1 fitted with a discharger cup, was still in use in the 1950s. The discharger cup enabled soldiers to fire No 36 Grenades (Mills Bombs) and No 80 Phosphorus Grenades up to a maximum of 200 yards. These grenades utilised a seven second time fuse.
