Bronze medal commemorating the Battle of Minden, 1759
This medal depicts a British and a German soldier in Roman costume. Victory is crowning each soldier with a laurel wreath. Britain and Germany fought as Allies in the Seven Years War (1756-1763). The Battle of Minden, fought on 1 August 1759, saw an allied British, Prussian and Hanoverian force inflict a crushing defeat on the French. French losses were between 10,000 and 11,000 men, compared to around 2,800 lost by Britain and her allies.
