Tunic, service dress, captain, Lancashire Fusiliers, 1897-1902
The Army had begun using khaki coloured uniform as early as the 1840s. This tunic is a made from thick drab serge for service overseas. It has medal ribbons for the Queen's Sudan Medal and Khedive's Sudan medal for service during the re-conquest of the Sudan in 1898.
Khaki service dress for both officers and men was formalised in 1902.
