'Single Men Show Your Appreciation', 1915

Chromolithograph recruiting poster, artist unknown, published by the Parliamentary Recruitment Committee as Poster No. 120, printed by Abbey Press, London, 1915 (c).

Propaganda posters played a key role in persuading men to sign up as soldiers. Often they showed images of women and children who needed protection. This one plays on the contribution made by Britain's married volunteers and suggests that single men, with no family ties, should be 'following their noble example'.
