'Step Into Your Place', 1916 (c)
Chromolithograph recruitment poster No 104 published by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, 1916 (c).
By 1916 the number of new recruits was still falling. Stories of the horrors soldiers were facing discouraged men from enlisting. Recruiters made a last effort to avoid instituting conscription.
This poster is trying to appeal to men from a wide variety of backgrounds and trades to all come together and take their place in the Army. The demand was still not met, and the Military Services Act 1916 was passed to introduce conscription.
