Operations in Waziristan, 1902

Photograph, India, North West Frontier, 1902.

Soldiers of an Indian Army unit, possibly the 52nd Sikhs (Frontier Force), man a hill top position. The sepoy on the right carries a Mance heliograph, a small mirror mounted on a tripod, that worked by reflecting sunlight in order to flash messages in Morse code.

From an album of 207 photographs compiled by B R Moberly, 52nd Sikhs (Frontier Force), 1901-1925.
