Glass negative, W Gregory and Company, 51 Strand, London, 1895 (c).
This gunner wears the uniform used by field batteries of the Royal Artillery. He wears a home service helmet and sword bayonet for fitting to his Martini Henry carbine. The white cross strap is for a haversack in which he would keep a day's rations whilst in the field.
The two storey building in the background provided accommodation for horses in stabling on the ground floor level with barrack accommodation above.
One of a collection of 278 glass negatives associated with Gregory and Company, London, and F G O Stuart, 1895-1900 (c).
