Corporal, field artillery battery, Royal Artillery, 1895 (c)
Glass negative, W Gregory and Company, 51 Strand, London, 1895 (c).
This corporal here wears the uniform used by field batteries of the Royal Artillery. This includes an undress frock and pillbox forage cap. His horse has standard pattern saddlery, including a chain around the neck, which could be used to secure the horse when out of barracks on exercise. In front of the rider are saddle wallets and a rolled up cape.
