Sergeant Major, Rifle Brigade, 1895 (c)

As the most senior non-commissioned officer in his battalion this sergeant major is pictured wearing an undress uniform comprising a rifle green patrol jacket and wearing a pillbox forage cap, both trimmed with black lace. These garments were normally worn by officers. He is also wearing a rifle regiments pattern sword and carries a walking out cane in his right hand.
