Officer, Royal Horse Artillery, 1895 (c)
Photographic print, taken by W Gregory and Company, 51 The Strand, London, 1895 (c).
The officer here is shown wearing full dress, and mounted on his charger. The officers' chargers tended to be a little larger than the gun horses used by the rest of the battery.
The saddle is covered with a decorative shabraque, or horse cloth, embroidered in gold metal thread with the Regimental badge and motto. A gold thread embroidered sabretache, or map case, hangs on the officer's left hand side, with the sword stored just behind it.
One of 52 photographs taken by W Gregory and Company, British Army, 1895 (c).
