Floor 'Bumper' or polisher head, 1949

Bumping the floor was a ritual carried out in every Army barrack room. The wooden floor was bumped with the heavy brush to clean the surface thoroughly. Sometimes a man stood on the bumper and was pulled along by several others to increase the cleaning pressure.
