Drum Horse of the 13th Hussars, 1912 (c)
Postcard photograph, Meerut, India, 1912 (c).
A cavalry drum horse had to be over 16 hands high, strong and fit. They were the biggest horses in the Army and carried two kettledrums, one on either side of their backs.
In 1912 the 13th Hussars were on garrison duties in India, but two years later they deployed to the Western Front with the 2nd Indian Cavalry Division.
One of ten postcard photographs, 1912 (c).
